Vintage Peugeot Mixte

Here’s an older Peugeot Mixte restored recently. Its been a slow project this one. Partly because I’m slow, but also, for one reason or another there was a lot of customising along the way...

I like these old Peugeot mixtes, but I bought this one in particular because it had the nice lugs, which aren't so common. It was in pretty ordinary shape though, so its been pretty much a bare metal rebuild. Only the frame, forks and stem are retained, here's how she looked when I acquired her.

 

The decals were done to new owners design and colour choices, with a few personal touches added like her initials in the decals at the top of the seat stays.

There was a special request for it to be 'easy to pedal' , so there is a 32T front ring, and a cassette with a 32T large cog. To prevent the long cage 600 arabesque derailleur interfering a custom hanger was fabricated.

After messing around with an old rack and a NOS one that didn't fit, one was made up from scratch, with some timber with a nice pattern and polished aluminium..

But the trickiest part of this build was fitting the chain guard.  Its a genuine Peugeot guard of about 50's vintage, but it was all beat up so it had to be straightened before painting, but no brackets or mounting points meant three new brackets had to be custom made too - which all started out the same as the derailleur hanger, followed by much cutting, bending, sanding, poshing.

  

A couple of other little details include these axel nuts, the chain stay protector, gold paint in the Peugeot pantograph on the stem, the Electra Ticino hammered fenders (great fit and finish, but the black plastic front piece was painted gold.) and the GranCompe Ene Ciclo tyres - which are a great colour match for the bike, so far these seem like a great tyre, I think I'll use these again in future.
